Strikes Planned For Piccadilly Line

RMT claim management 'harassed and threatened staff'

There's going to be disruption on the Picadilly line over the next few weeks as tube drivers plan three 24-hour strikes.

The RMT said the ballot for strike action was called after a “prolonged period” of industrial problems on the line, which have left drivers in a “vulnerable” position. 85% voted on favour of the action.

The union claims management have harassed and threatened staff through misuse of the disciplinary procedure.

Mick Cash, RMT general secretary, said: “The wholesale abuse of procedures and agreements by management on the Piccadilly Line is rife and amounts to the development of a campaign of bullying, harassment and intimidation that the union will not allow to continue.

“RMT will not sit back and allow individual members to be picked off by a vindictive and aggressive management who are continuing to drag their heels over addressing fundamental safety issues which leave staff in a vulnerable and exposed position.”

The Piccadilly line, is the fourth busiest line on the London Underground network with an average of 600,000 passengers every day.

Train operators and instructor operators will walk out from 9pm on Wednesday, March 23 to 8.59pm on Thursday, March 24.

Two further strikes will take place from 12pm on April 19 to 11.59am on April 20 and from 12pm on April 21 to 11.59am on April 22.

Transport for London has been contacted for comment.
