Hospital Backs National Men’s Health Week

West Middlesex encouraging men to get fit for benefit of long-term health

Next week is National Men’s Health Week (MHF), and West Middlesex University Hospital is encouraging men to get fit for the benefit of their long-term health.

Dr Andrew Winning, Medical Director at the hospital said: “Regular exercise is proven to help with a variety of medical conditions, from heart disease to diabetes as well as relieving stress and generally making people feel better. However, before you take part in any strenuous activity it is worth speaking to your GP first.”

The 2010 Week - 14-20 June - will be the first-ever national campaign to encourage men and boys to become more physically active. MHF aims to get men up off the sofa and walking, jogging, gardening, swimming, playing sport... in short, moving more.

Male physical activity starts to fall sharply in early middle-age. The MHF wants to get one million more men aged 35-64 moving by 2012, in time for the London Olympics.
