A cancer nurse from West Middlesex Hospital was a special guest at 10 Downing Street this week after she was invited to an ‘Inspiring Women’ event.

This Tuesday (21 May), Macmillan Gynae-Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist, Leah De Leon, went to the reception which aimed to celebrate women like her, from across the UK, who work hard to contribute to their local communities. Leah has been credited with making a huge difference to the cancer journey for gynaecology patients through diagnosis, treatment and beyond.

Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Rt Hon. Laura Trott MP, welcomed the women and gave an address in which she recognised recognised their contributions.

Leah was invited by Laura Blumenthal, Conservative Prospective Parliamentary and Candidate for Brentford and Isleworth, after she attended a meeting at the hospital looking at its work on women’s health.

Leah said, “It was a special experience to visit No 10 and meet great women from all over the UK. I was honoured to represent the hospital and all my colleagues who do great work for the local community. Downing Street is full of history but a highlight was definitely seeing Larry the cat.”

Laura Trott said, “It was wonderful to meet so many brilliant and inspiring women from across the country at Downing Street this week. Leah De Leon is a real champion for women’s healthcare.”

Laura Blumenthal added, “I have been impressed by West Middlesex Hospital’s excellent performance in women’s healthcare. When I heard about the No 10 event, I knew I had to approach the hospital to nominate a colleague. Leah was the perfect representative for all the excellent staff at the hospital. She’s done a huge amount to support women going through cancer and it was great to see her recognised at No 10.”
