A senior doctor at West Middlesex University Hospital is urging local residents and businesses to back a major fundraising drive that will help bring world-class diagnostic facilities to the borough.
Consultant cardiologist Dr Sunthar Kanaganayagam is supporting Hospital Next Door, a campaign led by hospital charity CW+ to raise £1.5 million for the new Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre due to open at West Mid in autumn 2026.
The NHS-funded centre will significantly expand the hospital’s capacity, but the charity aims to enhance it further with a state-of-the-art cardiac MRI scanner and modern, patient-friendly spaces. At the heart of the appeal is a “buy a brick” initiative, allowing supporters to add their name and message to a virtual wall on the CW+ website.
Dr Kanaganayagam, who was born at West Mid and grew up locally, said the new centre would transform care for thousands of patients.
“Imagine having world-class diagnostic facilities just 20 minutes down the road instead of having to travel across London,” he said. “Faster diagnosis means faster treatment, and that can save lives. This hospital has always been part of my family’s story, and now it can be part of yours too.”
Once open, the Diagnostic, Treatment and Education Centre will provide 57% more diagnostic and treatment procedures each year – almost 85,000 in total, faster, more accurate results for conditions including cancer and heart disease and best-in-class cardiac imaging, crucial in Hounslow, which has the highest heart-failure admission rates in England. In addition there will be a much-improved environment for oncology, haematology and kidney-dialysis patients
Dr Kanaganayagam said community support would play a vital role in bringing the project to life.
“Lots of people giving a small amount can be just as powerful as one big donation,” he said. “Think of it as helping your neighbour, your parents, or even yourself. Every brick brings us closer to opening the doors.”
A short video of Dr Kanaganayagam explaining the impact of the new facility is available on the CW+ website.
