One man has died and two others were taken to hospital following a collision between a car and a bus on Gunnersbury Avenue in the early hours of Thursday morning (20 August).

Emergency services were called just after midnight, with the London Ambulance Service reporting that it received the first call at 12:18am to the stretch of the North Circular north of Chiswick Roundabout. Multiple resources were dispatched, including ambulance crews, paramedics in fast-response cars, an incident response officer, specialist hazardous area response team paramedics and a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance. The first paramedic arrived in under seven minutes.

Ambulance crews treated three people at the scene. Two were taken to hospital for further care, while a third patient was pronounced dead at the roadside despite extensive efforts by paramedics and the trauma team. The North Circular was closed for several hours while emergency services worked and collision investigators examined the scene, reopening at 10am.

A Met Police spokesperson confirmed that the passenger of the car, a 38-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. The driver of the same car, a 24-year-old man, was assessed at the scene and taken to hospital. His injuries have since been deemed non-life-threatening and not life-changing. He has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, though he remains in hospital for treatment. The bus driver, a 61-year-old man, was assessed for minor injuries and taken to hospital as a precaution.

Police are appealing for witnesses, CCTV or dashcam footage and have asked anyone with information to contact them on 101, quoting CAD141/20AUG.
