Ealing Writers Light Up Chiswick Book Festival

Strong representation of local authors in the event’s programme

Ealing based writers and events are set to feature heavily in this month’s Chiswick Book Festival.

Between 10-16 September, the 11th year of what started off as the Ealing Literary Festival will take place online on video, Zoom and in podcasts. The programme will feature a significant number of Ealing-based authors and events will be hosted in the area.

A special opening day event on 10 September will celebrate the re-opening of the Hogarth exhibition at Ealing’s Pitzhanger Manor on 10 September. Director Clare Gough will join a panel session to discuss why Hogarth, Sir John Soane and Hogarths’s Rake’s Progress remain so influential in the 21st Century.

Former Blue Peter presenter and Ealing resident Konnie Huq will be contributing a video about her new children’s book Cookie and the Most Annoying Girl In the World.

Local historian Jonathan Oates and co-author Paul Lang will be at Gunnersbury Park to unveil Secret Ealing and Emily Caston, Professor of Screen Industries at Ealing’s University of West London (UWL) will be discussing her forthcoming history of British music videos.

On Monday 14 September award-winning playwright Lisa Evans will be hosting the Festival’s first Ealing Fiction Writers’ Panel which will include three leading writers of contemporary fiction: locally-based Marianne Holmes, Ruth Heald, Eleni Kyriacou.

Festival Director Torin Douglas said: “We’re delighted to be expanding our Ealing programme, after holding our first event at Gunnersbury last year. Research for the Festival has shown that the Borough has a significant literary tradition, as can be seen in our Timeline of Ealing writers.

“We’re looking forward to shining further light on today’s Ealing writers.”
