The local Conservative Party has announced its selection for the candidate to contest the next General Election in the Ealing Central and Acton constituency.

James Windsor-Clive, who is in his early thirties, has been chosen by its members to take on Rupa Huq.

Born in London, the nephew of the Earl of Plymouth has had a home in West London for the past 15 years. He started his career as a management consultant at Deloitte, where he also qualified as an accountant, before starting his own business. Currently, he works as a researcher for Anthony Browne, MP for South Cambridgeshire.

His great-great uncle Hubert Duggan won the Acton constituency from Labour in 1931 and held it until his death in 1943.

Mr Windsor-Clive said, "I am delighted to be chosen as the Conservative candidate for Ealing Central and Acton. It is an area that embodies London living: a diverse mix of cultures and architectural heritage punctuated with much-loved green spaces.

“I will campaign to maintain the essence of Ealing and Acton. Making sure we protect the character of the area while delivering the essential services residents need: affordable housing, more school places, and better access to GP services. It is also vitally important that everyone feels safe and secure in our community, I will take a tough stance on crime and antisocial behaviour.”

The Liberal Democrats announced their candidate for the seat back in 2022 picking community campaigner Alastair Mitton. Other candidates already declared include Reform UK’s Felix Orrell and Marta Bleier who will be standing for the SDP. At the last election the Greens did not field a candidate but encouraged their members to vote for Rupa Huq.

Now with the Labour whip restored after she was suspended for comments made about the former Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng, Rupa Huq will be defending a majority of 13,300 in a seat which she first won in 2015 by a margin of just a couple of hundred votes. Boundary changes are expected to marginally increase the Labour vote in the constituency with two wards in the Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham which have traditionally voted for the party incorporated in the seat.

The date of the General Election has not yet been announced but is most widely expected to take place in October or November this year.
