Families across Ealing will once again be able to access free school uniform this August, as the borough’s circular economy, recycling and waste team launches its latest series of community reuse events. Running from 17 to 29 August, the initiative offers residents the chance to collect or donate good-quality school uniform, helping households reduce back-to-school costs while keeping perfectly usable clothing in circulation.

The scheme invites families to pick up clean, pre-loved uniform items including branded and unbranded clothing, PE kits, shoes, school bags and rucksacks. Every item reused means less waste, lower costs for families and a more sustainable approach to schoolwear across the borough.

Organisers say the environmental benefits are just as important as the financial ones. Choosing pre-loved uniform keeps clothing in use for longer, reduces textile waste and supports Ealing’s ambition to build a cleaner, greener borough. For many families, it’s also a simple, welcoming way to take part in the circular economy.

Events will take place at four locations: ReActon in Acton, Perceval House in Ealing Broadway, Greenford Library and Southall Manor House Café. Each venue will host donation and collection points, making it easy for residents to drop off items their children have outgrown or pick up what they need for the new school year.

The ReActon Hub on Stirling Road—Ealing’s dedicated reuse and repair space—will also play a central role. Open on Mondays from 11am to 2pm and Fridays from 12 noon to 3pm (closed Friday 28 August), the hub offers a range of reuse activities alongside the uniform project. Visitors can collect free household paint suitable for DIY projects, browse second-hand books for adults and children, and donate items including school uniform, clothes hangers, clothing, small electricals and books.

The uniform initiative is part of a wider effort to support residents during the cost-of-living crisis while reducing waste across the borough. By encouraging families to donate items in good condition and pick up what they need without cost, the scheme strengthens community ties and promotes practical, everyday sustainability.
