'Liquid History' - the Thames in the past of South & West London

A river theme for this year's conference

This year’s West London Local History Conference is taking place on the 27 November and the theme is Liquid History with most of the talks being concerned with the River Thames.

This 41st conference will be the second in a row to be held digitally.

The area covered by the sponsoring local history societies has an extensive border along the Thames. This year's speakers will consider the impact the river has had on the lives of local communities from Wandsworth to Teddington and from Fulham to Kew.

The programme is as follows:

9.45 Zoom meeting opens to admit participants

3.45 Thanks and summary of the day’s proceedings as the Conference ends

The Conference starts at 10.00am. As a large group is expected to join the Zoom session will open at 9.45am to give time for everyone to assemble. Participants are reminded that the hosts will be able to hear what you say before the talk commences!

When the conference starts everyone's microphones will be muted because background noises can be so intrusive.

There will be a short time after each contribution for questions. You can type them using the chat facility and they will show up during the session.

If you wish to join the discussion or make a comment then either type into chat, wave your hand, un-mute your microphone or, if there are too many people to appear on the screen in one go, perhaps say "hello". Whoever is chairing the session will bring you in.

There will be a mid-morning break and a lunch break. If you need to leave the conference during the talks but intend to return it is best to turn off your video and mute your sound but stay online.

Tickets cost £15.00 and sales close at 6pm on 26 November.

The conference is sponsored by the local history societies for Acton, Barnes & Mortlake, Brentford & Chiswick, Fulham & Hammersmith, Hounslow, Little Ealing, Richmond, Twickenham, Wandsworth and the West Middlesex Family History Society.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied.
