Nuclear Disaster - The Aftermath

Mrs Kei Ikezumi shares experiences of living with post Fukushima evacuees

In March 2011, the Fukushima-Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant suffered major damage from a magnitude 9.0 earthquake and tsunami. This disaster disabled the reactor cooling systems, leading to releases of radioactivity. A 30 km evacuation zone surrounding the plant was set up.

Now, nearly five years later, the plant is still emitting radioactive substances, and there are many thousands of evacuees living in temporary accommodation.

Mrs Kei Ikezumi, the director of No-Nuke project, has recently moved into the evacuees' community to experience and share the difficulties of the aftermath of the nuclear power station's collapse.

She will be speaking about the impact of the disaster and the danger posed by nuclear power at an event hosted by Ealing Friends of the Earth
