Investment from English Heritage with Hounslow and Ealing Councils
Works to improve some of the buildings in Gunnersbury Park, including the large and small mansions and three lodges, are due to start next week, thanks to a £250K investment from Hounslow and Ealing councils and English Heritage.
Last summer, a structural survey was carried out to get a full picture of the condition of the buildings and what works need to be done. English Heritage advisors then suggested five areas to prioritise:
The works were agreed through the Joint Project Board, with English Heritage putting £149K towards the work, and Hounslow and Ealing councils jointly funding the remaining £101K.
John Laing Integrated Services has been appointed to carry out the work, which is part of the longer-term project to restore Gunnersbury as a significant heritage and leisure asset for the local and wider community.
Michael Jordan, Hounslow’s Director of Environment, said: “Gunnersbury is a wonderful place for the whole community, and this building work is the latest step in protecting the historic buildings as part of the wider restoration project.
“I am very pleased that working together with Ealing and English Heritage, we have been able to agree a way forward to secure Gunnersbury for future generations.”
Keith Townsend, Executive Director of Environment and Customer Services at Ealing Council, said:
"This is the first step in a 15-year programme of restoration of the buildings and grounds in Gunnersbury Park. The council's £5million investment, along with other streams of funding, will make a lasting difference to the park and local heritage."
