Nine Nights and When the Lights Went Out

Diwali or the Hindu “Festival of Lights” is celebrated across UK by people of the Hindu, Sikh and Jain faiths. The Festival commemorates the triumph of good over evil; celebrates heroic figures in Indian mythology and is considered to be an auspicious time for new beginnings. Watermans is delighted to host a series of theatrical performance that bring to life the tales that reveal the spiritual meaning behind this wonderful festival

NINE NIGHTS - stories from Ramayana (October 21- 23 @ 7.45pm)

The Ramayana is the best-known Hindu epic in the world. It is the story of Prince Rama and his wife Sita; their meeting, marriage, exile, deceptions, struggle for justice, discovering unimaginable loyalty, a war, and the ordeals of peace keeping.

Often Storytellers would tell the stories over the nine nights that led up to Diwali. Storyteller, Vayu Naidu condenses nine nights into one to bring you a family drama of unconventional friendships, grand delusions, pettiness, forgiveness, life changes and finding harmony.

Meet a magical eagle, the Golden Deer, an amazing flying monkey, and a many-headed demon; visit a mirror palace under the sea, enchanted gardens, and a monumental bridge over the ocean between India and Sri Lanka....

Vayu Naidu will be joined by musicians Jyotsna Srikanth & Colin Seddon.

When the Lights Went out (Sun 31 October @ 3pm)

Tara Arts presents their lively production, When the Lights Went Out depicting the story of the legendary Prince Rama and his wife Sita, and of their faithful devotee, Hanuman. Of how she is captured by the terrifying ten-headed, demon King, Ravana, and then rescued by the wondrous monkey god and his troops. Scarves, masks, dance and song bring to life the vivid magical world that has inspired the Festival of Lights!
