Huge choice this summer at Watermans’ 4th Urban Ambush

Back for its fourth year, Urban Ambush offers an unparalleled choice of artist-led creative camps for young people aged 8-18. From manga to capoeira, theatre to digital game design, music to animation, there really is something to suit every young person’s interests, whether they know exactly what they like or are trying something for the first time.

Urban Ambush is different to most camps in that children work with artists, developing their projects to reflect their interests. Urban definitely isn’t a one size fits all approach!

And this year’s fourth week is a brand new initiative. World class Hip Hop Shakespeare Company – founded by MOBO and BAFTA award winning British rapper Akala – will be working with local young people to develop a one-off performance from scratch taking in hip hop, Shakespeare and everything in between!

Whatever course they choose, young people develop new skills, grow in confidence and make friends along the way. At the end of each week there’s a showcase to which family and supporters are invited – a fun evening of sharing.

Urban Ambush has an extensive bursary programme that can be accessed through Hounslow and Ealing boroughs. This ensures that children and young people from all backgrounds can have access to this fantastic programme, and discover the Arts for themselves.

TRANSFORM with Libby Todd

Ever thought it would be fun to transform a room into a world of your imagination? You'll get messy with glue and paint as you imagine the space you want to create and make it a reality.

MAKE A PLAY with Danielle Mcilven

Can you create an original play and stage it in just 5 days? Be an actor, director or playwright and transform ideas into a piece of theatre.

Ages 13-18

SOUNDSCAPE with Colourscape

Don't just play the instrument, make it. Come together and make a light and sound installation. Learn about how to sample, use equipment, edit and use light sensors.

AMAZE-IMATION with Rez-Animates

Create your own animated film. Master a range of animation techniques including stop-frame and hand-drawn animation, puppetry, silhouettes and digital manipulation.

MICROGAMES with Genetic Moo

Design and build your own motion-controlled computer games that make use of Kinect sensors with the award-winning Genetic Moo.

BREAK DANCE with Nearly There Yet

Unleash your inner break dancer and learn the foundations of hip hop dance, with breakin', body-popping, jumping and locking.

Ages 13-18

TRANSFORM with Libby Todd

Create an immersive and multisensory 3D installation. Learn theatre design, prop making and set design techniques from a professional set and costume designer to realise your artistic vision.

THSC RESIDENCY: URBAN AMBUSH LIVE! with The Hip Hop Shakespeare Company

The Hip Hop Shakespeare Company is taking over Watermans and they need your help! THSC was founded by BAFTA and MOBO award-winning British rapper Akala and has collaborated with the likes of Sir Ian McKellen and Ed Sheeran.  Produce original material inspired by hip hop, Shakespeare and everything in between. Get involved in acting, writing, music, spoken word, sets, costumes and lighting… and perhaps some things we haven’t thought of yet!
