15 Local Parks and Open Spaces Awarded Green Flags
Marcus Garvey and Pineapple added to this year's list of high standard parks
Two new parks in Hammersmith & Fulham have been awarded Green Flags in 2018, bringing the total in the borough which meet Keep Britain Tidy's strict criteria to 15.
Newcomers Marcus Garvey Park, off the northern end of North End Road and William Parnell Park - better known to Fulham residents as Pineapple Park- have been added to the green spaces in the borough which are able to fly the flag.
The Green Flag scheme, now in its 22nd year, recognises parks with the highest standards of cleanliness, horticulture and facilities.
“This is great news for users of Marcus Garvey Park and it is a testament to the hard work not only from the friends group but the council and the volunteers who come out for the community gardening day once a month," said Alwyn Simpson, of the Friends of Marcus Garvey Park.
"We will continue to ensure that we maintain the standard we have set, and continue to encourage the local community to use and cherish the space, and then we can rest assured that we will work with council to keep it as a nice place to relax."
The Green Flag scheme, now in its 22nd year, recognises and rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country. A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign that the park boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.
The awards are judged by experts, who visit all the applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.
Including the family friendly Pineapple Park, in the heart of Fulham's Sands End, pictured below, the full list of Green Flag green spaces in H&F is:

- Brook Green
- Frank Banfield Park
- Furnivall Gardens
- Hammersmith Park
- Hurlingham Park
- Margravine Cemetery
- Norland North Open Space
- Normand Park
- Ravenscourt Park
- South Park
- St Peter’s Square
- Wormholt Park
- Marcus Garvey Park
- William Parnell Park (Pineapple Park).
"Working closely with residents helps us keep our parks and green spaces in superb condition," said Cllr Wesley Harcourt, H&F Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Transport and Residents’ Services.
"This teamwork helps us build on our aspiration to be the greenest borough in the country.
"These new awards are testament to the hard work of our parks staff and the residents and ‘friends’ groups, whose efforts ensure our parks remain welcoming, pleasant and clean for everyone who visits."
