Headteacher hails 'fantastic results' at St Dunstan's Road school

Students at William Morris Sixth Form in St Dunstan's Road studying for A Levels and BTEC have more than risen to the challenge, says principal Matthew Coulbeck.

"We have had some really fantastic results and overall they’ve really held up since last year," hs says. "Students have done really well.

“I’m proud of the students and proud of the teachers. I think A-levels and BTECs get harder every year."

Two of William Morris' top achievers are Jabril Abdinur and Benjamin James, pictured above.

Jabril, 18, achieved As in maths and chemistry, as well as a C in physics.

"I’m really relieved. It feels like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders," he said. "It means I can study mechanical engineering at Queen Mary University. Then I’ll see where that takes me."

Benjam is off to Brunel University to study computer science after getting B grades in economics and ICT media studies, and an A* in his extended project qualification.

“Studying here has really set me up for that," he said. "Computers are so important nowadays and learning about them is something I enjoy."

The principal however, says exams results are not the whole story at the Hammersmith sixth form. It also have been a part of the Jack Petchey Award scheme for several years with nine students receiving this prestigious accolade each year.

And he adds: " It’s not just about the academic side. We support students with counselling, mentoring, careers advice.

" It’s a whole team approach."
