Fulham Restaurants Join Support for Grenfell Families

Providing hot meals to people living in emergency accommodation in H&F

Restaurants from Fulham have joined the hundreds of local residents who have rallied round to support those affected by the Grenfell Tower fire.

H&F Council says a number of people evacuated from their homes by the terrible blaze on 14 June are now in emergency accommodation in our borough and council staff are visiting them daily to ensure they are getting all the support they need – including hot food.

Ten food outlets in North End Road are now accepting vouchers from H&F council in exchange for a hot meal.

These vouchers can be redeemed for food at the following outlets:

  • Best Mangal Restaurant
  • 222 Veggie Vegan
  • The Crepe Factory
  • GOGO Pizza
  • The Grill House
  • Pasha’s Peri-Peri
  • Burger@home
  • Al-Reef Restaurant
  • Masala Express
  • Café Delight

"We have been doing our utmost within our means to
support those people affected," said Gursel Gurgur, owner of the Best Mangal."We sent food over in the first couple of days after the fire and when we heard about the vouchers we were very happy to help.

"The support locally has been overwhelming. It’s so good to see how everyone has pulled together and done their best to help."

Families and individuals affected by the Grenfell fire who have been left without access to hot meals can collect meal vouchers from H&F staff at the Holiday Inn Express, 295 North End Road every evening, Monday to Friday between 5.30pm and 7pm.

Alternatively, they can contact Memie Shillingford on 020 8753 4152, by email: memie.shillingford@lbhf.gov.uk, or at First Floor, 145 King Street, Hammersmith, W6 9LX.

"This is another example of the amazing generosity we’ve seen from residents and businesses across our borough for those affected by the fire," says Cllr Ben Coleman, H&F’s Cabinet Member for Health and Adult Social Care.

Immediately after the fire, H&F residents, businesses and council staff were quick to offer help, working together to get van loads of vital clothes, food and toiletries to those in need.

Council Leader, Cllr Stephen Cowan, says: "Thanks to the incredible generosity of local people, community organisations and businesses, we also have an extensive supply of clothes, toiletries, toys and other supplies. We’re very pleased to welcome these families into our community and that they are now getting the support they need.

"We are opening a local children’s centre so that children living in hotels have somewhere to play. It will also give families somewhere to meet up, relax and use computers, phones, and a kitchen.

"The emergency response to the Grenfell fire is now being co-ordinated by a combined Grenfell Tower Response Team. Like councils across London, H&F is contributing specialist staff, including social workers, rest centre managers and emergency services staff, and we have accommodation on stand-by, if it's needed."

A Red Cross helpline is available to give practical or emotional support. The number is 0800 458 9472.
