GCSE Success for Local Schools

Record breaking performance in exam results

After a sparkling set of A Level results earlier this month, younger students in local schools have matched their sixth formers by breaking more records for pass rates.

Brentford School for Girls and Isleworth & Syon both saw an improvement of over 10% in the number of pupils getting 5 or more GCSE passes at A*-C.

Gunnersbury School also smashed their previous record with 90% of boys getting 5 or more passes at the top grades. Exceptional individual performances came from Sean Cannon who managed 10 A*s and Chris McCann with seven A*s and three As.

Chiswick Community School achieved record GCSE results this year echoing their A' Level success.

64% of all students at the school achieved grades A*-C across all subjects and 54% of students achieved grades A*-C including English and Mathematics.

Headteacher Alan Howson told this site, "In terms of progress this puts us in line with the top 25% of schools in the country and reflects the ‘rapid improvement’ in standards as reported by OFSTED."

St. Mark's Roman Catholic School was the best in the borough with 93% getting 5 or more passes at A* - C and 80% getting five passes at those grades including English and Maths.

Congratulating the students on their success, Cllr Robert Oulds, executive member for Children’s Services and Education said , “Our young people and schools can be very proud of what they have achieved. I want to congratulate all - students and their parents, teachers and support staff - on their wonderful achievements"

Students whose results are not what they expected, or are unsure what to do next, can get help from the council’s Connexions service. Personal advisers can help explain the options available, and help make sure they have enough information to make a decision.

Anyone looking or information and advice about their results can visit The Attic, the drop-in centre based in Hounslow Library in the Treaty Centre, where personal advisers will be able to help. Advisers are also available at the new Connexions centres at Brentford School for Girls and Feltham Community College. They can also contact Connexions via the following ways, www.hounslowattic.org.uk/connexions or email connexions@hounslow.gov.uk or call 020 8577 5478.
