85% of Hounslow Borough Pupils Get Into First Choice Primary

Figures released by Pan-London Admissions Board

96% of children were placed at one of their top three choices

85 per cent of Hounslow pupils have been offered their preferred primary school place according to figures issued by the Pan-London Admissions Board.

The data was released this Tuesday (19 April) on National Primary Offer Day by the body responsible for the co-ordination of school admissions across the capital.

96% of applicants have been offered one of their top three schools with 97% getting in to one of their six preferred schools.

Primary school places in London have been co-ordinated through the Pan-London Admissions scheme since 2011. The scheme aims to ensure the application process for primary school admissions is simple with a fairer distribution of places available across London.

Vicki Taylor, Assistant Director of Education and Skills at Hounslow Council, said, “It’s fantastic that over 97 per cent of children starting primary school in September will attend one of their preferred schools, and a large majority have received a place at their first-choice school.

“We are excited to be welcoming another new year group to the schools in our borough, which provide high-quality education, despite the challenges presented by the pandemic in the last two years. This is backed up by Ofsted’s recent inspections that have rated every school in the borough as ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’.”

Cllr Ron Mushiso, the Conservative opposition spokesperson for children and young people said, "Whilst I welcome the news that Hounslow has high percentages of children getting offered a place at one of their top three schools choices, I am disappointed to see no statistics or findings on the amount of children with special education needs (SEN) being accepted in their school of choice or need. I have been contacted by worried and distressed parents who have expressed their grief that their special education needs child has not been granted an appropriate or adequate place in a school suited to their needs.

"I ask the Council to ensure those more vulnerable in our communities are not ignored and are given extra support to ensure they find the best school for their special needs."
