Brentford Fountains Leisure Centre
January 14, 2025
Hounslow residents aged over sixty are being invited to the New Year Stay Steady and Active Event at the Brentford Fountain Leisure Centre.
There will be free taster activity sessions and opportunities to speak to a physio, get a blood pressure test, learn new ways to increase activity levels, test balance abilities, and reduce risks of falls. In addition, those attending can exchange their old, worn-out slippers for a brand new, free pair.
The event takes place on Wednesday, 22 January, from 10am – 1pm at the centre at 658 Chiswick High Road, Brentford, TW8 0HJ. It is a free event and there is no need to book.
Stay Steady and Active, developed by the Hounslow Borough Based Partnership, aims to increase activity levels, test balance abilities, and reduce the risks of falls for older residents.
The initiative offers free exercise classes, access to a 12-week strength and balance programme, signposting to a range of activities for the over 60’s, plus a Staying Steady test that residents can do at home to understand if they need additional clinical support.
The line up of organisations attending includes The Health Outreach Team (HOT), West London Falls Prevention and Bone Health Service, Adult Social Care, Over 60’s Free Activity Programme, Move into Wellbeing, Linkline, Talking therapies, Diabetes UK, Healthy Hounslow, Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB), Social Prescribers, Hounslow Borough Respiratory Support Group and many more.
The ASC (Adult Social Care) Community Information Team will also be attending with The Gazebo, Adult Social Care Information ‘pop up’ shop to provide information and signpost residents to local support services.
You are encouraged to bring your old, worn-out slippers and swap them for a brand-new pair for free. Proper slippers can play a significant role in preventing falls, while old ones can lead to serious injuries, resulting in hospitalisation and a loss of independence and confidence. The new slippers feature secure fastenings and sturdy soles.
You must bring your old slippers to swap them for a new pair. This operates on a first-come, first-served basis, and one pair per person. Men’s and women’s styles available, while stocks last and subject to size availability.
