New Advice Centre for Young People

Open this Summer at Brentford School for Girls

This summer, Connexions Personal Advisers will be extending their information and advice service to young people in the Brentford area.

Based in the Brentford School for Girls, the new centre will open throughout the summer holiday to offer a convenient and welcoming place for young people to find out about getting on in life.

Connexions has worked with students to modernise their existing premises. The centre will be open over the summer with drop-in sessions from 10am to 4pm as well as hosting specific sessions on topics such as life skills, sexual health and self-esteem building.

Cllr Robert Kinghorn, Executive Member for Children and Lifelong Learning at Hounslow Council, said:“It’s not enough for us to just have the information young people might need as they become adults, we have to be able to deliver it to them where they can get to it. These centres add to our existing network of personal advisers and offers somewhere for young people to get advice in a convenient location during the summer holiday.”

Information and advice is also available on other issues that young people face as you become more independent including relationships, health and housing.

The new centres were refurbished with £100,000 from the Connexions Transition Fund (DfES). Connexions Hounslow provides free and confidential information, advice, personal development opportunities and practical support to all young people in the London Borough of Hounslow. They help young people in all aspects of their lives, including education and careers, housing, personal safety, sexual health and personal relationships, healthy living, drugs and alcohol, training and employment, understanding the law, money, and more.
