Charitable trust invites applications from recreational and leisure projects

Are you part of a club or an individual in the borough thinking about developing a project or seeking funding?

The London Marathon Charitable Trust is currently considering applications for grants from recreational and leisure project groups or individuals in the London Borough of Hounslow.

The grants will support groups and projects for local people, by local people, working to tackle any kind of disadvantage suffered by individuals or groups.

Each year money raised through gift aid plus and a proportion from the generous London Marathon entrants who choose to donate their race entry fee to the Trust if they’re not successful in the ballot, is donated to the London Marathon Charitable Trust.

The Trust then distributes this money as grants to support community sports facilities and develop recreational projects.

The amount raised each year runs into millions of pounds and is used to help hundreds of projects in London and around the country. For example, in 2008, £10,000 was donated to the Isleworth Explorers Club for new gym equipment.

The Trust also sets aside money to buy sports grounds under threat from development, and provide facilities for the 2012 Olympic Games.

The council’s lead member for leisure, Cllr Rebecca Stewart said, “I want to encourage everyone involved in recreational and leisure activities to apply for this funding.
“We are keen to promote healthy lifestyles and using sport as a means of increasing community cohesion.

“Previous successful applications have shown what can be achieved for the community by bringing together the expertise of a variety of local organisations. I hope that the London Borough of Hounslow will be as successful as it has been in previous years.”
