Hounslow Could Recycle Up To 12 Million Food Cartons A Year

If more residents put them into their recycling boxes for collection

As a nation we consume an estimated 58,000 tonnes of paper-based cartons every year for milk, juice, sauces and other liquid foods and drinks – the equivalent weight of a whopping 337 blue whales, or 2.3kg per household, which could be recycled instead of thrown in the rubbish bin.

Hounslow Borough residents alone consume an estimated 11,700,480 cartons every year, but these can be recycled using the recycling box which is collected every week.

Councillor Peter Thompson, Leader of Hounslow Council, said, “The residents of the London Borough of Hounslow have always responded well to the different recycling schemes we’ve implemented in the borough, but we’ve still got some tough targets to meet, both as a borough and as a nation. We’re delighted that Tetra Pak and the carton industry are supporting us to help increase the number of cartons recycled in our area.”
