New Community Legal Advice Provider

Council appoints Law For All to give residents access to free independent information

From 1 April, Hounslow residents can get free legal advice on a range of issues including debt, employment, housing, welfare benefits and family law from ‘Law For All’.

The Brentford-based organisation was last week (11 March 2010) given a one year grant to provide a community legal advice services for borough residents.

Cllr Peter Thompson, Leader of Hounslow Council, said, “A good quality community legal advice service gives residents free access to independent information on welfare and other related legal issues when they need it most. This is an important community support service and, once Hounslow Law Centre stopped operating, we felt it important to quickly identify an alternative provider.

“I am delighted that we have been able to find a local organisation to offer this service and meet the needs of the borough’s residents.”

The service will run five days a week (Monday to Friday) from 9.30am - 5.30pm, with legal advice provided by qualified legal advisors.

‘Law For All’ has been operating for several years; it is currently funded by the Legal Services Commission to provide a service in Hounslow. It is the only alternative ‘not for profit’ organisation with a legal services contract in the borough.

The organisation provides a similar legal service for the London Borough of Ealing.
