Bin your old Brontë, Beatles or Batman Begins in the bank for the BHF
Hounslow Council has introduced a series of new book banks to the borough to help residents recycle their old books, CDs and DVDs.
11 new bright red recycling banks have been placed at various locations across Hounslow to enable residents to donate their old music, films and books to the British Heart Foundation.
In 2010 the council placed several of the banks around the borough, collecting around 10 tons of classic and not-so-classic albums, novels and DVD releases for resale in the British Heart Foundation charity shops.
All items placed into the bin should be of a good quality for someone else to enjoy whilst raise money for the nation’s heart charity. The bins are evenly scattered around the borough to enable all residents to use them, regardless of whether they live in a house or a flat.
Cllr Corinna Smart, Hounslow’s lead member for the environment said “This is a fantastic way to raise money for such a worthy cause, whilst helping residents get rid of some of their clutter.
“One person’s junk is another person’s treasure as they say, and these bins are helpfully situated next to other recycling points to enable our residents to beat last year’s amount and give money to the nation’s heart charity.”
BHF Retail Director Mike Lucas adds “Stock is the lifeblood of BHF shops and every donation will help us continue our lifesaving work.”
