Councillors recognised the efforts of local residents in keeping the borough’s parks safe on Tuesday.

Three parks in the borough received awards from the Mayor of London for their hard work in combating crime and creating beautiful open green spaces. Chiswick House and Gardens and Dukes Meadows received the Mayor’s Gold Award, with Beaversfield Park in Hounslow West receiving the Bronze Award.

Congratulating them on this achievement, Cllr Ed Mayne, cabinet member for community safety and regulatory services at the council, said:

“This is fantastic recognition for three of Hounslow’s fabulous open spaces, and testament to the hard work put in by many local people, together with the police and the council, to make our parks somewhere safe for all residents and visitors to enjoy.”

At Chiswick House and Gardens, crime has been tackled by a number of initiatives including landscaping measures and a 24-hour warden service to patrol and respond to anti-social behaviour in the park.

 Dukes Meadows was a considered a no-go zone a decade ago. Since the local community formed a Friends group, the park has since been transformed with £1m funding and is now a safe, popular place.

At Beaversfield Park, nearby residents are encouraged to report anti-social behaviour and regular meetings and street briefings are held with a wide range of community groups.
