Foster Carers Meet Up

Hounslow Council are still looking to recruit more carers

Foster carers and their families braved the weather last weekend, to get together for the annual Foster Carers Fun Day.

The event saw more than 170 people enjoying a fun-packed day celebrating the role foster carers play in the lives of local looked after children.

Families took advantage of a break in the rain to enjoy a range of activities such as football coaching, drumming lessons and face-painting.

The fire service again showed their support of the event by sending a fire engine and crew from Heston Fire Station.

Cllr Lily Bath, cabinet member for children and families, said: “Despite the weather it was a brilliant day – it was great to see so many of our fostering families enjoying themselves together.

“As ever, the crew from the fire service were amazing with the children. They gave away lots of freebies, let the children sit in the engine and press all sorts of buttons, and even had a race in the garden to get all of their safety clothing on and roll out the hose, which the kids loved.

“It’s important we make sure we show our carers how much we appreciate their work, and if we can all have fun at the same time it’s even better!”

Hounslow has more than 330 looked after children and young people, and always need to recruit more foster carers.

Advice and support for carers is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and a generous fortnightly allowance of up to £816 is paid to meet the needs of each child placed with a carer.
