Local Disruption Likely Due to Olympic Games

Warning issued about of changes to transport network

With the Olympic Games now only a week away, the borough will see some changes to the local transport network as Hounslow prepares for London 2012.

The traffic management include:

· local diversions and road closures to allow the Torch relay to pass through the borough on Tuesday 24 July.

· bringing the full Olympic Route Network (ORN) and Paralympic Route Network (PRN) and Games Lanes into operation from 25 July

· local disruption as a result of the cycling road races which take place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July and Wednesday 1 August between central London and Surrey via Richmond and Kingston.

The following specific measures have been put in place in the local area:

Games lanes

• The former M4 eastbound bus lane became a Games Lane from Monday 16 July (ahead of the start of the other Games Lanes, to cater for international visitors), with times of operation “as required”

• The A4 between junction 1 (east of Chiswick roundabout) and central London will have Games Lanes in both directions along most of its length, operating 6am-8pm each day, 25 July to 14 August and 27 August to 11 September

Restricted turns

• Due to the presence of the Games Lanes, the following right turn restrictions will be in place at any time of the day, from 25 July to 14 August and 27 August to 11 September

• No right turn from the A4 Ellesmere Road westbound into Sutton Court Road northbound.  Drivers should use Hogarth roundabout/Dorchester Grove or Chiswick roundabout/Chiswick High Road instead

• No right turn from the A4 Great West Road (Chiswick) eastbound into Netheravon Road South.  Drivers should use Hogarth roundabout/Church Street instead.  Larger vehicles will have to proceed eastbound along the A4 and ‘U’ turn before the Hammersmith Bridge, turning under the Hammersmith flyover

On the day of the torch relay from Kew Bridge to Hounslow (Tuesday 24th July) motorists can expect diversions and delays along the route from Kew Bridge Road to Lampton Park. High Street, Brentford will be closed from 10am to 1pm between Half Acre and Tallow Road.

Cllr Ruth Cadbury, Hounslow’s lead member for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics, said: “The whole of London is gearing up for what is undoubtedly going to be an amazing but challenging few weeks, and it would be impossible to deliver something on the scale of the Olympic and Paralympic Games without some degree of disruption.

“We are continuing to liaise with the Highways Agency and Transport for London to try and achieve the smooth operation of the local transport network, and it’s important to make sure that residents, businesses and visitors to the borough know what to expect.

“Information on the local road closures, diversions and details of the ORN and PRN are on our website, but our advice is to plan and leave plenty of time for any journeys in the coming weeks.”
