You can make your views known until 3rd February
Parents and carers are being consulted about proposals to make changes to Hounslow Council’s home to school travel policy.
The policy is regularly reviewed and the council wants to make sure proposed changes continue to meet the needs of parents and carers.
A consultation meeting was held with parents and carers last week, which was chaired by Cllr Steve Curran, cabinet member for education and housing.
Cllr Curran said: “We have learned lessons from previous experiences and we are committed to working with parents, and parent’s representatives, to improve the transport assessment process.
“This approach has contributed towards a significant reduction in the number of parents who have requested changes to the assessment decisions.
“I know there were some problems with the service at the start of the autumn term, due to a new IT system failing, but we will not be using this system until it is clear that the problems have been resolved.”
Since the last review, the council has been working with partner authorities in the West London Alliance (WLA) to develop a consistent policy across all five boroughs.
This led to the creation of the WLA Transport Bureau to carry out the transport arrangements on behalf of a number of boroughs within the WLA.
The new policy is designed to ensure a consistency of operation across the boroughs served by the WLA Transport Bureau, and the council wants users to give their views on this policy.
The council also wants parents’ views on introducing a new independent travel training service.
The consultation is open until 3 February, and the policy and response forms are available at www.hounslow.gov.uk/consultation
The WLA partners are Hounslow, Barnet, Brent, Ealing and Harrow.
