Council Clampdown On Blue Badge 'Cheats'

Twenty-three badges confiscated by police in the borough

A joint Hounslow Council and police clamp down on blue badge cheats achieved its biggest win so far, with 23 badges confiscated by officers this week.

Councillor Ed Mayne , cabinet member for community safety and regulatory services, said: “This is fantastic work by the police and our officers and it sends a shot across the bows of blue badge cheats throughout the borough.

“We will continue to wage our war on the selfish few who deprive genuine disabled people of parking places.”

This week’s haul took place during a nine-hour operation over three days.

Chief Inspector Rob Weir of Hounslow police, said: “The local authority police team is robustly enforcing blue badge offences. They will continue to identify and target those individuals who shamelessly deprive legitimate disabled drivers of their rightful parking places. This is not only fraud but a form of inconsiderate anti-social behaviour.”

It is an offence to allow someone to misuse a blue badge.  If the badge holder is not present, the badge cannot be used.
