West London Orbital Rail would link Hounslow to Isleworth and Brentford

A new rail line, to be named the West London Orbital Rail would see a route connecting Hounslow with Cricklewood, without the need for commuters to enter central London.

If agreed, the line, which is part of the Mayor's Transport Strategy would see direct connections from Hounslow to Isleworth, Brentford and Syon and through to Old Oak Common and the midland mainline. A new station is also proposed to help serve the new Brentford Stadium at Lionel Road.

Hounslow Council has welcomed the overground rail line plan.

The Transport Strategy sets out the Mayor of London’s long-term vision for the capital’s transport infrastructure, including walking, cycling, roads and railways. It aims to improve Londoners’ health and clean up the city’s air, providing everyone with a good public transport experience, including enabling disabled and older people.

Councillor Amrit Mann, Deputy Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “We welcome the Mayor’s ambitious Transport Strategy which provides us with a blueprint of how we can improve the travelling experience for residents, businesses and visitors.

“We are pleased that the Strategy proposes improved rail links to outer London areas which will no doubt encourage economic growth and new jobs and homes. If approved, this line will encourage more people to switch to sustainable transport options which will benefit generations to come.

“Hounslow has already made some bold changes to encourage less car use and more walking, cycling and use of public transport. We look forward to working with Transport for London to further improve the travelling experience for all who live, work and visit the borough.”
