Local businesses and residents are being invited to help spread the joy this winter by making a pledge to support their community.

The Winter Warmth campaign, led by Ealing and Hounslow Community Voluntary Service (EHCVS), aims to help people in need this winter.

Hounslow is projected to be one of the hardest hit boroughs in London due to the impact of COVID-19 and lockdown and it is estimated more than 40,000 jobs could be at risk. The Council has provided a range of support and guidance during the coronavirus pandemic

The Winter Warmth campaign is helping to address the impact by making it easier for people to find and offer help in their communities.

First team players from Brentford Football Club and staff are supporting the campaign, by creating a video which will be used to raise awareness of the Hounslow Community Foodbox service and encourage donations.

As part of the campaign, The Hounslow Young Carers Project, run by Brentford FC Community Sports Trust, is providing young carers in Hounslow with a special Christmas hamper in December. This will be filled with a range of treats and wellbeing activity packs to provide support and recognise the amazing work the young people are doing.

Businesses are also being invited to make a pledge to support local people or community groups in the borough.

Carolyn Sellick, Volunteering and Communities Manager, Ealing and Hounslow Community Voluntary Service, said, “Ealing & Hounslow Volunteer Centre have been overwhelmed by the enormous contribution made by volunteers and charities during the pandemic.

“We recognise that many people want to help but can’t commit to traditional volunteer roles.

“We have developed our social action and giving page to allow everyone to help out in the effort to keep our communities safe, well and warm.”

Cllr Candice Atterton, Cabinet Member for Adults, Social Care and Health, said, “Through this year's Winter Warmth campaign, we want to encourage those who are already doing their bit to support their neighbours to keep going.

“We hope others will be inspired to help their communities through the combined impact of coronavirus and winter.

“We are calling on local people to support our campaign by making a simple pledge.

“This could be anything from donating much-needed funds to a local charity, helping a neighbour with their shopping, or donating to a local food bank.

“I have personally been inspired by a friend recently to support a local charity supporting homeless people.”

Like Reading Articles Like This? Help Us Produce More

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we’d be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you’d like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT. All payments are made through a secure web site.
