Rapid Covid-19 Tests Now Available in Hounslow Borough

Local centres for those without symptoms promised from next week

Testing for Hounslow Borough residents without Covid-19 symptoms has been made available from this Tuesday (5 January).

The tests are current being offered from sites in Hounslow and Heston but three more centres are promised by the council from next week onwards. It is not known at this stage whether any of the centres will be in Brentford, Isleworth or Chiswick.

About 1 in 3 people with Covid-19 have no symptoms, but can still pass the virus to others without knowing.

Members of the community - such as key workers - with no symptoms can book a free rapid test online via the Hounslow Council website.

Rapid tests, called ‘lateral flow tests’, give a positive or negative result in 30-40 minutes. They are safe and do not require a laboratory to process the results. Once people have booked an appointment, they will get a confirmation email, explaining where and when to go and what they need to take with them e.g. a face covering.

The remaining sites are due to open for pre-booked rapid test appointments from next week onwards and further details will be provided soon.

Sites will be open for pre-booked appointments from 8am-4pm, seven days a week, for about six weeks. People can choose which site they prefer to attend to have their test. Once they have had their appointment, they will get their test result by email/text which can take about 30-40 minutes.

For those who don’t have access to the internet, they can call 020 7084 9697 to book a rapid test. They should not walk up to the testing centres without booking.

Cllr Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said, “Even if you do not have symptoms, you could still have Covid-19 and be passing on the virus. If you don’t have any COVID-19 symptoms, book your rapid test online. This will help to reduce the spread of coronavirus. But, even with a negative test result, we must all still remember the basics such as ‘Hands, Face, Space’ to keep one another safe.”

Those who do have Covid-19 symptoms, for example a high fever, a new, continuous, cough or a loss of taste or smell, should get a ‘PCR test’ instead. Visit this link.

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we’d be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you’d like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT.
