Hounslow Council has announced that it will be waiving the fees it normally charges for any street parties in the borough celebrating the Coronation. In addition, it will be offering grants of up to £1000 to support residents and communities mark the historic occasion.

The Coronation at Westminster Abbey will take place on Saturday 6 May where His Majesty The King will be crowned alongside the Queen Consort, which is the first to take place in nearly 70 years following the late Queen's long reign.

With a host of plans announced by the Palace to mark the Coronation including the Big Lunch on Sunday 7 May and the Big Help Out on Monday 8 May, communities are being invited to come together to take part in a day dedicated to good causes.

Residents will need to apply for funding through the Council’s Thriving Communities Fund by 9am on Monday 17 April 2023. Find more information on how to apply at www.hounslow.gov.uk/smallgrants

Over the coming weeks, more information will be available on the Council’s website including a community toolkit with tips to plan the perfect event and updates on what’s on across Hounslow.

The Leader of Hounslow Council, Cllr Shantanu Rajawat said, “The King’s Coronation is a momentous occasion in our history and a time for great celebration. I am delighted the Council is once again able to support residents and voluntary groups who wish to hold an event for their local community in marking this landmark event.

“The Council wants to support volunteer and community events, which help bring people together and leave a positive impact on our local neighbourhoods and a long legacy of caring for our neighbours and our local environment.

“I’m looking forward to seeing our communities come together, share food, celebrate friendships and make new ones over the weekend of special events”.

Cllr Shivraj Grewal, the Cabinet Member for Communities and Equalities for Hounslow Council, said, “From Street Parties, garden get-togethers to community events in our green spaces, there will be plenty of ways everyone can get involved in celebrating the King’s Coronation.

“The Coronation Weekend is also an occasion to shine a spotlight on our volunteers and community groups in the borough who play an incredible role throughout the year to support their local areas and help our communities thrive. I hope the occasion further strengthens those values and we see more residents volunteering for the first time and join in on the action.

“The weekend of special events is an opportunity for everyone to get involved in the celebrations and bring the coronation festivities to Hounslow”.
