Local Paper Folds After More Than 100 Years

Newsquest close former Brentford Chiswick and Isleworth Times

Local newspaper Hounslow and Brentford Times is to close after more than 100 years.

Staff at the Newsquest owned title were told of the closure earlier this week.

It is believed that no journalist jobs will be lost with Hounslow and Brentford Times staff told they will redeployed across other Newsquest titles in the area.

The news was broken by Hold The Front Page who said that neither the paper's editor, Helen Barnes, nor group editor Andrew Parkes had so far responded to requests for a comment or for further information on the announcement.

The newspaper was launched in 1895 and called The Chiswick Times before being renamed the Brentford and Chiswick Times, the Brentford, Chiswick and Isleworth Times and finally The Hounslow and Brentford Times.

The paper was part of the Richmond and Twickenham Times Series which currently boasts a part-free, part-paid-for circulation of 50,985. The Hounslow and Brentford title's circulation is not audited separately.

The closure casts doubt of the future of The Chiswick Times although no announcement has yet been made.
