Smokers Urged to Pack it in for Stoptober

Online support available to help your motivation

Hounslow Stop Smoking Service is urging smokers in the borough to pack it in during October as part of the national Stoptober campaign.

Stoptober is an innovative new 28-day quit challenge that will encourage and support smokers to stop smoking for 28 days during October. Evidence shows that if smokers can stay smoke free for 28 days they are five times more likely to stop for good.

Cllr Ajmer Grewal, Hounslow’s cabinet member for leisure and public health, said: “Giving up smoking may be one of the toughest things you ever have to do, but you don’t have to do it alone; Hounslow Stop Smoking Service is here to offer you  free advice and support to help you quit for good.

“Last year, the service helped 1385 people to give up smoking for at least four weeks, supporting them to get through the initial – and most difficult – period.  This year, we want to help even more people, and I hope that by taking part in Stoptober, many more will be able to kick the habit for good.”

Evidence shows that motivational support along with medication is the most successful way to quit smoking, and that smokers are four times more likely to quit with NHS support. So make sure that you maximise your chances of going smoke free for Stoptober by getting advice and support from your local NHS Stop Smoking Service.
