Fees for audio and large print books waived during June
Local libraries are shouting about the services they offer for visually impaired people as part of the Make a Noise in Libraries campaign.
The annual campaign, run by the Royal National Institute of Blind People, brings public libraries and blind and partially sighted people together to improve access to books and information.
Throughout June the borough’s 11 libraries are waiving the reservation and hiring charges for all audio books and the reservation fees for large print books.
Cllr Ajmer Grewal, cabinet member for leisure and public health at the council, said:"We're taking part in Make a Noise in Libraries fortnight to highlight the resources available to blind and visually impaired residents.
“Traditionally, if you couldn't read printed books libraries couldn't offer you much else, and we want to make sure residents know this is not the case.
"I hope lots of people will pop in throughout the fortnight and find out more.”
Alongside an excellent collection of audiobooks and large print books, local libraries offer blind and visually impaired users an eBook service and online magazine service, which allows users to change the font size according to their needs.
