Celebrating local business communities nationwide
Small Business Saturday is taking place right across the UK for the first time on Saturday 7 December.
It is a national grassroots campaign to encourage people to shop locally as well as support small businesses in their communities on the day and beyond.
Cllr Steve Curran, cabinet member for housing, planning and regeneration at the council, said: “We recognise the importance of our high streets as the hub of communities and are working to make it easier for people to shop locally and also improve business conditions on the high street.
“Small businesses can be the heart of local community, and make a real positive difference to an area.
“We want to use the day to celebrate, support and promote small businesses at a key time in the shopping calendar.
“We’re fortunate to have some great independent local traders in our borough, so please show your support for these vital shops and services.”
Originating in the United States, Small Businesses Saturday is held on the busiest shopping day of the year and last year helped raise the profile of small businesses and their contribution to society, creating a massive £3.5bn in sales and increased long-term custom.
To support Small Business Saturday, the council has put together a selection of posters for local businesses to download and use to promote the day, and encourage people to think local when they’re shopping. Small business promotional packs are available from the editor.
On the day, Cllr Curran will be visiting Naked Grain in Brentford, along with Suzie Betlem, President of Brentford Chamber of Commerce.
