As part of the renewal of Hounslow High Street
Hounslow is to get a new war memorial to commemorate the borough’s fallen as part of the 100th anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War.
The memorial – which will be made out of granite - will be placed adjacent to the Holy Trinity Church in the High Street.
Councillor Pritam Grewal, cabinet member for communications and communities, said: “I am very proud to announce Hounslow will be getting a new war memorial to commemorate fallen servicemen and servicewomen in conflicts past and present. I would also like to thank the magnificent support by Mr Andre McGill of the Royal British Legion, Hounslow and his members.”
“Finally, we have a memorial to honour those who have paid their today for our tomorrows in the heart of Hounslow.”
The memorial will be among the newest in London and will provide a poignant feature of a revamped High Street.
Work to regenerate the High Street started late last year and is on-going, although plans have been rescheduled to take into account the new memorial.
