New wheels for our estate police officers

Squad cars to speed up response time

Hounslow’s estate police officers (EPOs) will be able to respond faster to residents’ concerns now that they have a squad car for the first time.

The unit was formed last year to keep the borough’s estates safe and is joint funded by Hounslow Council and the Mayor of London.

The EPOs' work is informed by a group of tenant representatives and the council who identify objectives and priorities for the team.

Hounslow Council Leader, Cllr Steve Curran, said: “The estate police officers have been successful in making our streets safer, and this new car will help make them even more efficient.”

The unit has already delivered significant success in reducing crime, including:

  • Reducing the number of drug incidents and complaints on Hounslow’s housing estates by ten per cent (895 in 2013/14 against 975 in 2012/13)
  • 67 per cent of people responding to Hounslow Homes residents’ survey, felt the police and estate wardens were dealing with ASB
  • Between August 2013 to April 2014, the EPOs have carried out 520 stop and search / accounts; assisted in the execution of 24 warrants; submitted 251 criminal intelligence reports and made 13 arrests
