Visit Hounslow Competition for Youth

Pocket sized guide to Hounslow adds to promotion

The deadline for Hounslow Council’s summer competition for children and teens has been extended to Monday 14 September.

The free competition is based on the council’s new ‘Visit Hounslow’ video, a 45 second tour of Hounslow which showcases the best of the borough.

Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said:

“Our new video is a whistle stop tour around some of the highlights of our vibrant borough.

“It’s a great way of showing everyone what a wide variety of cultural attractions and iconic buildings we have, and to encourage people to come and visit Hounslow.

“We’re running the competition to celebrate the summer break, and we’re extending the deadline so that children who are currently away on holidays don’t miss their chance to enter.”

There are two categories for the competition.

Age 7-11: Watch the video and answer: In which park is the girl wearing a yellow dress dancing in?

Age 12-16: Watch the video and name five of the different locations which appear.

You could be in with a chance of winning two first prizes of an iPad mini and two second place prizes of a day out at the Leisure West complex. The day will include bowling, food and drinks and a film for a family of up to six people.

A pocket-sized guide designed to give visitors and residents alike a taste of the sights, atmosphere and history of Hounslow is being been distributed across the borough.

The Out & About pocket guide gives readers an overview of the jewels in the borough’s crown that tourists can enjoy and residents can rediscover. It is hoped it will also appeal to the tens of thousands of visitors from around the world expected in the borough during the autumn going to the Rugby World Cup in neighbouring Twickenham.

From historical gems and tales of colourful characters across an area steeped in history, to bars and restaurants of note serving up the finest foods from around the globe, the guide is designed to whet the appetite and get people to explore.

Bookended between a brief history of the borough and a taster of some of the best nightlife on offer are the details of a myriad of festivals that fall on Hounslow soil.

Some of the neighbourhoods are profiled in the guide to pique the interest of families thinking of putting down roots in the borough and to shine a light on areas of interest to the casual visitor.

The guide, published jointly with FHW Events & Marketing, is being distributed to hotels throughout the borough and to libraries. It is free of charge and designed to be kept as a souvenir of a visitor’s stay. An online version can be seen at www.hounslowpocketguide.co.uk
