Hounslow Announce New Mayor


Cabinet portfolios announced at annual council meeting

Councillor Ajmer Grewal, ward member for Hounslow Central, has been elected Mayor of Hounslow for the municipal year 2016/17.

Councillor Daanish Saeed, ward member for Cranford  is the new Deputy Mayor

The appointments were made at the annual meeting of the council on Tuesday.

Cllr Grewal is looking forward to meeting as many people as possible across the borough, bringing communities together and highlighting a “vibrant” Hounslow.

Speaking after her election to the office of Mayor for the next 12 months, Cllr Grewal said: “I am extremely privileged to be elected Mayor of Hounslow and can’t wait to meet all our wonderful communities we have here.

“I am looking forward to visiting many places, helping and supporting those causes and events that mean so much to all our residents. I am honoured to be Mayor and I hope to use my position to make sure that everyone knows about the places and people that make up our fantastic borough.”

As Mayor of Hounslow, Cllr Grewal’s chosen charities for the year are Alzheimers Society and Hounslow Association for the Blind.

Cllr Saeed is also looking forward to taking up her ceremonial role in Hounslow.

Also at the annual meeting was the cabinet make-up for 2015/16.

There were no new members appointed to the Cabinet, just changes to portfolios for some councillors.

Councillor Sue Sampson is now Cabinet Member for Community Protection and Councillor Richard Foote is responsible for Communities.

Councillor Ed Mayne is now Cabinet Member for Corporate Performance and Customer Care, with Councillor Corinna Smart taking up Public Health and Leisure.

Councillor Steve Curran, Leader of Hounslow Council, said: “We have made a changes to the areas that Cabinet Members will pick up and I believe we have a very strong cabinet, the right people in the right places to ensure we deliver on our manifesto of commitments on which we were re-elected on, in 2014.”
