Hounslow Council is asking residents and businesses to help shape a new pilot aimed at increasing the use of e-cargo bikes for local deliveries and day-to-day trips across the borough. The Council says cargo bikes could play a growing role in last-mile logistics, reducing pressure on loading bays, cutting emissions and offering a cheaper alternative to short van or car journeys.

A five-minute survey, open until 22 November, will gather views on how cargo bikes are currently used and what support people would need to adopt them in future.

The engagement forms part of a wider exploration of options including private ownership, shared cargo bike schemes, secure parking and potential pilot projects. The Council wants to hear from anyone who lives, works or visits Hounslow, with particular interest in feedback from businesses that rely on local trips for deliveries, servicing or collections.

Cargo bikes, which come in several forms — from longtails and front-loaders to larger three-wheeled trikes — are increasingly used by families and organisations for transporting children, shopping, tools and equipment, often with electric assistance to help carry heavier loads.

Residents can take part online or attend one of two autumn pop-up events, where the project team will be available to answer questions and offer cargo bike try-outs. These will take place at Spring Grove Primary School, Isleworth, on 23 October (2.30pm –4.30pm) and Beavers Community Primary School, Cranford, on 6 November (2.30pm–4.30pm). Paper surveys are also available at local libraries, and completed forms can be returned in person, by email or by post. Large-print or translated versions are available on request.

All feedback gathered through the survey and engagement events will be reviewed and published in a summary later this year, setting out how residents’ views will influence the design of cargo bike provision in Hounslow.
