Kew Bridge Site Becomes Eco-Village

As peaceful protesters occupy land set for development by St George

Some 70 people have set up their own Eco-Village occupying an empty area of land next to Kew Bridge.

Property development company St George have been seeking planning permission for the site.

The settlers have been setting up tents and cleaning the site of rubbish.

Their aim is to create a sustainable living area with gardens and semi-permanent structures and show community based sustainable methods of living such as vegetable growing and compost toilets.

This eco-village occupation is inspired by movements like The Land is Ours which 'campaigns peacefully for access to the land, its resources, and the decision-making processes affecting them for everyone, irrespective of race, gender or age.'
