As many as 100,000 homes across West and South West London were either without water had reduced mains pressure after 32 inch pipe burst at the Hampton Water Treatment Works on Wednesday morning (12 June).

The affected areas included Brentford, Chiswick, Acton and Shepherd’s Bush.

Emergency bottled water distribution sites were closed at midday Thursday as mains water was returned to normal.

From early Wednesday, an estimated 100,000 homes found themselves either without water or with reduced pressure after the rupture.

A Thames Water spokeswoman said five locations were still distributing bottled water to anyone who needed it this Thursday, but no-one was turning up.

She said there were no further pressure issues being reported, and the company didn’t expect any further problems.

She said: “Water supplies to all areas were restored yesterday evening and our plumbers have been visiting individual properties overnight and this morning to clear air blocks from the pipes inside them.

The affected areas were included Brentford, Acton, Chiswick and Shepherd’s Bush.

The spokeswoman said engineers worked through the night on repairs to the burst pipe inside Hampton water works.

She said: “We’re really sorry for the inconvenience yesterday’s burst caused. We’ll be carrying out a full investigation so we can take steps to stop it happening again.”
