Ruth Cadbury Helps Plant Tree at Local Foodbank

This Sunday (16 April) Ruth Cadbury joined the Mayor of Hounslow Cllr Raghwinder Sidhu, local councillors and volunteers for a tree planting ceremony at the Hounslow Foodbox Community Garden in Brentford.
With the help of the Mayor, the Brentford and Isleworth MP planted an apple tree, which will later be used to provide apples in food boxes. This is in addition to other vegetables that have been planted in the community garden which will also be included in food packages for people locally. The community garden is the latest project launched by Hounslow Community Foodbox which provides thousands of emergency food parcels to people locally. Speaking after the event Ms Cadbury said, ‘‘I was really pleased to be able to attend the tree planting at the Foodbox garden this weekend.
‘‘Hounslow Community Foodbox have made a life changing difference for thousands of people locally and this community garden is the latest example of the great community work that they’re doing. I’d like to thank all the volunteers whose tireless work keeps the foodbox going, and who helped get the garden ready for the event. We shouldn’t need food banks but due to a decade of stagnating wages and low growth their work is needed more than ever.
‘‘With the cost of living crisis hitting so many people locally food banks such as Foodbox are sadly having to support more and more people. They rely on donations, and need a wide network of volunteers- especially those with access to a car to drop off parcels. I would really encourage anyone who can to support them at this difficult time.’’
