Ruth Cadbury MP Marks Run Up to Armistice Day
Takes part in a stake planting ceremony in Parliament garden

In the run up to armistice day on the Saturday 11 November Ruth Cadbury MP for Brentford & Isleworth has planted a memorial stake at the remembrance Garden in the Houses of Parliament.
On her stake, which represented her parliamentary constituency, Ruth included a tribute to the work of the Royal British Legion who have supported veterans and their families for over 100 years. Founded in 1921 the Royal British Legion have supported those who fought in World War 1, World War 2 and subsequent conflicts- along with all those who served for the armed forces.
Commenting afterwards, ‘‘This year marks 105 years since armistice day, when the guns across Western Europe fell silent after four years of horror and slaughter. So many families across Hounslow lost loved ones or saw family members return from the war with physical or mental injuries that changed their lives. The Cavalry Barracks in Hounslow played a central role in both World War 1 and 2, and so many families locally had loved ones who served, or volunteered on the Home Front.
“I dedicated my stake to the work of the Royal British Legion who receive the funds raised by poppy sales each year. The RBL staff and volunteers work tirelessly to support all those who served in our armed forces and their families. Locally I’ve met people who’ve told me about the difference the RBL has made for them when they needed support.
“We have branches of the RBL in all parts of the borough, and in Isleworth and Hounslow the branches own and run 'the Legion' social clubs that play an important role in the community, where all are welcome, and can become members.”
