Brentford Olympic Torch Relay Event


Carnival atmosphere along the High Street

Residents have been invited to watch the Olympic Torch relay as it passes through Brentford next Tuesday, July 24th. The torch will not be passing through Chiswick and the closest locals can get will be either Kew Bridge, or Brentford High Street.

Brentford High Street Steering Group has organised a carnival-themed event before the Olympic Torch procession on Brentford High Street. They also plan to organise live music in Market Place with stalls selling art and crafts, food and drink.

The event is expected to last for three hours running from 09.45 to 12.30

 Event Acts - 25 minute show on the High Street

Gold stilt-walking, jugglers, German Wheel (main act), groovy roller skaters, balloon modellers, walkabout entertainers who will mix and mingle with the crowd, human statues strategically positioned on the high street to create a stir and a picture opportunity.

Other organisations who will be performing/assisting/entertaining on the day-

Brentford FC Community Sports Trust (football skills will local children)

  • Parkour free runners (running and jumping demonstration)
  • London Cycling Campaign-Dr Bikes - smoothie maker (cycle the bike and make your own smoothie)
  • Greentop (Entertainers)
  • Active 360 (Paddleboarding)
  • Stage and marquee

There will be a marquee and stage in Market square with straw bales for the public to sit and enjoy the two-hour music programme. Andrea Black and her band will perform in the main square.

Brentford High Street Road Closure

The North side of the High Street is the main spectator’s area. The road will be closed from 10:30 allowing 30 minutes for the carnival theme event, the torch relay and will re-open at 12.30.
