Watermans Awarded Increased Funding

Arts Council England supports development of its new media arts programme

In a tough funding climate, Watermans has been awarded a 20% increase in its core funding from Arts Council England, maintaining its status as a National Portfolio Organisation (NPO) and bringing investment in the arts into the borough of Hounslow.

The funding for National Portfolio Organisations covers the period 2018-22 and enables organisations to plan strategically to develop their programmes. Watermans’ funding is for its new media arts programme, which sees year-round exhibitions and performances from leading new media artists in its main gallery, as well as workshops and special events.

The uplift in funding recognises both Watermans’ high quality and innovative delivery of the programme to date, and its plans to scale up the programme as it moves to a new building with a larger gallery and the ability to exhibit artists’ work on the outside of the building on a large screen.

Director at Watermans, Jan Lennox, said, "We are delighted to have successfully brought more investment in the arts into Hounslow, and that West London audiences will have a chance to see work that excites and challenges them on their doorstep. Our well-established programme already features group shows, such as the work of leading women artists in Technology is not Neutral, solo shows such as Lumen Prize-winning Andy Lomas or, this autumn, robotics artist Patrick Tresset. Many of our artists also exhibit and have work in the collections of world-class institutions such as the V&A and Centre Georges Pompidou. As we move to a new building the opportunity will be to take this to the next level".
