South Thames College is now providing the service
Merton Council’s new programme of adult education courses for 2016/17 is online for learners to browse and book onto courses.
New course provider South Thames College is offering courses including arts and crafts, childcare and teacher training, computing, English and Maths, health, foreign languages and English for Speakers of Other Languages. Also on offer are courses to develop lifestyle and professional skills such as book keeping, public speaking and counselling.
South Thames College is hosting an open day from 11am to 2pm on Saturday (July 9) where learners will be able to tour the new venue for adult learning and speak to the experts about the courses on offer. There will also be the opportunity to enrol on a course.
Merton’s other adult learning provider Groundwork London will be providing a wide range of family learning courses and employability courses to support those looking to get back to work or develop their careers.
Courses will cover job search, CV writing, interview techniques and other functional skills. Working with employers, schools and other community groups, the courses will be delivered in community venues across Merton and have been tailored to meet the needs of local residents.
The two providers are running courses following the controversial closure of Merton Council’s own Adult Education service, which was primarily based at Whatley Avenue in Wimbledon Chase.
Merton continue to deliver courses for people with learning disabilities. The courses will be held primarily at two venues, Merton Vision at the Guardian Centre, Colliers Wood and Pollards Hill Library.
Information on booking courses is on the council’s website.
