Wimbledon Face Controversial MK Dons Match

Teams will face each other in the FA Cup

Wimbledon will play a controversial FA Cup tie against MK Dons after both sides won their First Round replays.

The match, which will kick-off at Stadium MK in Milton Keynes on Sunday December 2, was confirmed after MK Dons beat Cambridge City 6-1 on Tuesday (November 13). It will be televised live on ITV.

Wimbledon had already beaten 10-man York City in extra-time on Monday (November 12).

Wimbledon have already put out a statement stating that they would rather not face a potential match against MK Dons, but they would approach it professionally.

However, a number of their fans, including Simon Wheeler, chairman of the Wimbledon Independent Supporters' Association have vowed not to attend the match.

He said: "This is a fixture that should never happen. I'll watch it at Kingsmeadow or go to a garden centre or something."

The club statement read: "AFC Wimbledon is a fan-owned club. We are proud of that fact and also that we returned to the Football League the proper way, rising through the football pyramid. While we would rather not have been drawn in this tie, like everything we do, we will approach this game in a professional manner if it happens. Therefore, we are committed to fulfilling this potential fixture on 1/2 December, in accordance with the rules of the competition."

It would be the first time the clubs will have met in since MK Dons were created in 2004 - nine months after the original Wimbledon FC's controversial relocation to Milton Keynes in 2003 and its subsequent administration and renaming as AFC Wimbledon.
